A look at the past, present, and future.
THE PAST:
In
the past, we saw a clan that was attempting to find its common
ground. The societies were a fairly new structure, and were
struggling to exist on their own. On a whole, the practice
of diablorie was at an all-time high among the clan, and in
entirety, the clan was being portrayed as dark, sometimes
even borderline infernalism and Sabbat. The hierarchy of the
various factions of the clan were very disorganized, and most
lacked direction, much less a description of what they were
supposed to do. Inter-clan strife was a larger focus then
the value of role-playing. A hierarchy value for the Serpents
of the Light was non-existant also, and there were also very
few Serpents of the Light in play in general. On the whole,
there was not a whole lot of direction for the clan in terms
of clan, or sect promotion. The past image of the Setites
included dark, evil villainous creatures who hid in the darkness
of the alleyways and dealt drugs and corrupted people through
material vices.
THE PRESENT:
When
I first stepped into office, my first job was evaluating where
the clan was. Where were the elders located? Who were the
most influential or powerful? What areas needed worked on
the most? My staff and I evaluated the write-ups of the Wenewet
(Priests), the Kenyet (the Warriors), and the Ecstatics, and
ended up doing an almost complete re-write so that we could
bring the clan in line with the current chronicle running.
Next on our list was the write-ups of the temple construction.
We removed the requirements for diablorie and made it so that
you could interpret it based on the path and the personal
views of each individual PC (Of course I believe that diabbing
5th Generation Vinnie Ventrue would make Set look upon me
more favorably!).
When the clanbook came out, we took a poll of the players
in terms of who wanted to see what parts of the clanbook implemented,
and most wanted to see a sort of clan status come into play,
so we released the first version of Clan Status. The next
on the list is the formation of the cults. However, we are
already starting to see several of those emerge as more and
more people are beginning to lose faith in what they once
held sacred in terms of their societal structure.
THE FUTURE:
In
terms of the future, what I see happening is a complete overthrow
of the societal structures in favor of the more personalized
version of the Cults. With the introduction of the Path of
Sutekh and the Path of Typhon, the entire hierarchy of the
Wenewet has almost split in two, one faction traditional in
their views, and the other much more transitional. From those
camps, alliances are formed, enemies are made and beliefs
are created. Within each of those emerges new cults, were
leaders are created, and most worthy stand out as the prophets.
The Setites at this time will have become one of the more
devout and religious-based clans as they should be. Like the
Sabbat, playing a Setite is about playing a character who's
entire world is centered around faith. Their devotions, their
rituals, the very core of their beliefs are going to be centered
around Set, their cults, and their sect. In more ways, to
play a Setite in the world of darkness is akin to playing
a character in a pack. Some packs will hate each other just
as some cults will. But in the end, their goals are the same,
even if their means to an end are different.
What I hope to see more of in the future, is more accessibility
to Thaumaturgy (Setite Ahku), as well as less bad guy NPCs
who are all about slumming the streets and dealing drugs.
That part of the Setite image is long gone. What we have now
is a much more mature and in depth character view. No longer
is the corruption based on materialistic vices (that is reserved
for the Ecstatics), now we have a more in depth corruption
based on the body, the mind, and the soul, all aspects of
the Ba, Ka, and Ank.
